Sardines have returned to Cannery Row...
During the 1930's and 40's, Monterey was considered "The Sardine Capital of the World." John Steinbeck wrote of this time of abundance in his classic tale, Cannery Row. After more than a decade of abundance, the thirteen canneries and tons of sardines disappeared and were replaced by quaint tourist shops, restaurants and of course, the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Today, more than 4 million people visit this famous street to experience the flavor of Steinbecks' Cannery Row.
When Daren Warnick (owner, CRSC) first arrived in Monterey, CA, he noticed something was missing from Cannery Row. On a street made famous by Steinbeck's tale of the people who's lives depended on the sardine industry and where more than 200,000 tons of sardines were canned each year, the absence of sardines just didn't seem right! So he founded Cannery Row Sardine Company and began offering the one product that belonged on this street... Cannery Row Sardines. He didn't want to offer just any ol' sardine because he knew most people (in the U.S. at least) didn't like sardines with the skin and bones still intact. Remember the kind Grandpa used to try to get you to eat? He wanted to offer the most delicious tasting filet's of sardine he could find... top shelf sardines. The result of his efforts is what we offer you today, boneless/skinless sardines, packed in pure olive oil....prepared especially for the American palate!
We are very grateful for the support we've received since opening our business and hope you've enjoyed the tasty sardines we've offered over the years. We are looking at the possibility of adding to our product line by offering additional sardine products as well as other high quality canned seafood. Drop us a line if you would like to request that we carry a specific product. In addition, we'll be bringing back some of our logo emblazoned items such as t-shirts, sweat shirts, metal signs, etc.. Stay tuned!
